General Manager's Annual Charity Cycle Challenge

Morupule Coal Mine’s cycling club, Morupule Cycling Club, will be staging the 2019 General Manager’s Annual Charity Cycle Challenge on the 01st September 2019 in Palapye. The Cycle Challenge include short (30km) fun ride, middle (60km) and long (110km) distances starting at Lotsane Junction Mall at 07:00hrs. The cyclists will head northwards on the A1 road through Palapye village up to Palapye Old Mall and curve back to A1 down the Martins Drift road past Lencheng to Malaka village before turning back to the starting. The Club was formed in 2009 with a view to improving the level of fitness and wellbeing of employees of the Mine and surrounding communities as well as to raise funds to assist less fortunate members of the community through various charitable initiatives. Funds raised during the past races were mainly applied towards different projects including construction of houses for indigent families in and around Palapye, construction of classrooms for disabled pupils at Ratsie Setlhako Primary School, purchase of pupils Jungle Nastix and play equipment at Sehunou Primary School among others. The Club recently donated a 2 and half house to a person living with disability in Tamasane village.
Students tour MCM

In today’s world, we see the approach to education steadily shifting from theory to incorporating practical teaching aspects. At MCM, we realized this shift and we aligned our empowerment initiatives to accommodate practical learning through guided mine tours. To this far, at least ten 14 schools with over 200 pupils each, have been hosted on an educational tour of the mine. Great interest being on mining methods and processes. Being able to witness the actual mining process plays a vital role in aiding teachers and students understanding of the mining process. Molopo River Secondary School teacher, Mr Kebonang Motshabi applauded MCM for their effort on ensuring that students are well educated on mining processes. Students also were delighted that they see first-hand what they have only been taught theoretically. Mr. Motshabi further said ‘with or without teaching aids, it is a mammoth task to stoke interest of students in processes of any nature if they have not seen any of it in real life’. Anyone wishing to undertake a tour in MCM should contact the communication section for logistics. Tours are conducted on Wednesdays and Fridays. The application takes 7 days for communication section to respond. Upon arrival all visitors must report to Security office and the SHE induction will be done. MCM takes pride in its commitment to sustainable development through education. While educational tours are beneficial to the school, MCM likewise enjoys the brand promotion and stakeholder engagement. The peak for school tours is usually the months of July and August. Employees, contractors, stakeholders and our families are welcome to request for a mine tour.
Employee's view are crucial (ICE BERG SESSION)

The General Manager, David Kgoboko explained the importance of engaging with employees at the just ended working session which was held at Majestic Five hotel on 6 September 2017. This is an internal engagement session which gives employees a platform to discuss issues that are pertinent within their areas of work. Stores Clerk, Bame Botlhoko kicked off the proceedings of the day by giving a SHE moment. She cautioned employees against the ‘silly season’ which is slowly approaching as we are approaching year end. She advised that employees should not only make safety a priority at the workplace, but they should also practice it at home. Kgoboko took to the stage and welcomed employees to the session and encouraged them to participate without fear of victimization. “This session is intended for us management to listen and find ways of bridging a gap between ourselves and employees. I am therefore requesting for all of you to take part in the discussions that will be brought forward and our promise to you is that we will hid those concerns and suggestions accordingly”, he said. Giving an overall of the Mine’s SHE performance, Mrs Keeletsang Moseki compared the TRIFR performance of this year to last year. She congratulated employees for taking part in the near hit reporting programme. “Ever since the launch of the Near-Hit programme, there has been a significant drop in recordable incidents, and employees you are all encouraged to keep up this good work”, she urged. Different presenters also took to the stage and gave an update on various topics. Human Resources team led by Pride Malomo and Thapelo Dintwa engaged employees on how their salaries are calculated and other benefits that add on to their salaries. On the production update, Keneilwe Orapeleng encouraged employees to continue working as a team to ensure optimum production. “With the current high demand of our coal, it is imperative that we all work together to meet our targets. This will help us to satisfy our customer demands and ultimately contribute to attaining our bonuses, ’she said. The highlight of the session was when employees were given the opportunity to engage with management on issues that were affecting them. Different issues such as poor workmanship, lack of cooperation between employees and their supervisors, unsafe PPE and lack of transport were some of the issues which were brought forward. Each relevant HOD was afforded the opportunity to respond to all the questions that were asked and they all assured employees that their grievances will be dealt with accordingly. At the end of the session, the HR manager, Tom Mongale thanked employees for their participation and encouraged them to keep this spirit up. “Sessions of this nature are intended mainly to bring together management and employees, it is heartwarming to see all of you participating and taking control of your welfare as MCM employees. As management, we will look into all the issues that were raised and try find solutions that will work for the both of us”, he concluded.
